LITTLEHAMPTON HANG ON FOR DRAW

LITTLEHAMPTON CC battled valiantly to a draw on Saturday after Stirlands had given them an uncomfortable afternoon at the Sportsfield.

Despite their having held on in a less-than-glamorous fashion, captain Stuart Stoneham's side never got to grips with the game after Stirlands opener Peter Cross hit a dynamic 148.

Cross's half-century took only 43 minutes, including some high-quality cuts and deflections off the back foot with one six nearly decapitating a studying team-mate in the pavilion.

After surviving a couple of close lbw shouts, Cross deposited another gigantic six onto the roof of the Sportsman club and set Littlehampton a difficult task if they were to win the match.
