LITTLEHAMPTON LOSE CLOSE ONE

YOU DON'T mind cricket when it gets this tense. A nail-biting finish at The Sportsfield on Saturday ended with Cuckfield gaining only their third-ever Sussex League victory in their second competitive season.

The success was built on a 104-run third wicket partnership between the Mole brothers Tom and Chris who came together at 36-2, when Littlehampton had their tails up.

The Moles dug in and ground out a gritty joint effort. Tom was more flamboyant in his strokeplay to begin with, whereas Chris was content to pick up the odd one or two. Indeed, in his first 33 minutes at the wicket, he scored just three runs but accelerated superbly to reach his 50 after 89 mins having faced 95 balls.

Tom, who had opened, slowed his scoring while his brother sped away and posted his half century in a shade over two hours, having faced four balls fewer than his brother.
