Local donkey charity earns top award

THE 'forgotten heroes' of animal welfare have been honoured at a ceremony in London. They included Mid Sussex-based charity Safe Haven for Donkeys in the Holy Land, which received an Outstanding Success Award at the Wetnose Animal Aid Awards Ceremony in the House of Lords.

A spokesman said: "The champions the smaller, less well-known rescue organisations applauding the people who run them."

The charity, based at Scaynes Hill, was founded by former air hostess Lucy Fensome and it is the only organisation dedicated to the welfare of working and abandoned donkeys in Israel and the Palestinian Territories.
