Heptathlete Elise Lovell narrowly missed out on the final of the women’s 60m hurdles at the English Institute of Sport, Sheffield.

The championships were an invitation-only event featuring the best athletes in Great Britain and Lovell was selected based on having run below the target time of 9.00s.

The 22-year-old ran 8.93s earlier in the year at the British Combined Events Championships also in Sheffield where she finished sixth and was placed on the GB reserve team for indoor pentathlon.

Lovell was in the first of three heats alongside the likes of Katarina Johnson-Thompson (world number one heptathlete of 2014) and Karla Drew (BUCS champion 2014 and 2015).

Representing Hastings Athletic Club, she ran a big personal best of 8.75s and placed fourth in her heat. Lovell missed out the final by just 0.08s, but placed 10th overall.

She said: “Considering I was a heptathlete competing against specialist hurdlers and was ranked 20th going in to the competition, it was a massive achievement.”

The indoor season is now over for Lovell, who also claimed bronze in the long jump at the South of England Championships at Lee Valley in January with an indoor personal best of 5.69m.
