Mark, mark, police warn

SUSSEX Horsewatch is now supported by Sussex Police, which has a team of dedicated officers to deal with equestrian-related issues.

The horsewatch scheme is now up and running again to mark saddles. and those for Riding for Disabled groups are done free of charge.

Riders have been warned that this is this time of year when all tack, rugs and other equipment should be marked.

In addition, Sussex Horsewatch can arrange for police to visit yards and homes to advise on security.

It will soon have an engraving tool to mark synthetic saddles or to engrave discs for saddles and bridles in case any riders part company with their horses whilst our riding.

Saddle can have a unique number with a registration form '“ just like a car log book, with all entries held on a data base now that police have quick access to in case of thefts.

There is a follow-up scheme too, should you sell your saddle.The cost of marking is 5 per saddle.

Organisers of tack marking can have their tack mark free as a thank you (10+ saddles per session, plus three free for organiser, all in the same name)
