Martin out to make tracks at Wales Rally GB

In those days it was called the Lombard RAC Rally and he was co-driven by his brother Steven.

This time he will be co-driven by Irish co-driver Anthony Concannon and it will be the first event the crew will have competed in together.

The route sees the competitors tackle the stages in and around the Sweet Lamb Rally complex in 
mid-Wales tomorrow.

The longest stage of the rally is 17.32 miles before the crews have a long drive to Cardiff for the main service of the day and the overnight halt.

On Saturday, the crews compete over the very fast stages on the Epynt military ranges, including long fourth and fifth-gear stages.

Classic stages named Epynt and Halfway come before the drive back to Cardiff for more servicing.

Day three on Sunday is a new addition to the rally, formerly a two-day event. Sunday’s stages cover South Wales in the Rhonda Valley with sections in the forests near Port Talbot, Rheola and Walters Arena before finishing in Cardiff on Sunday afternoon.

The Wales Rally GB National offers amateur crews the chance to compete on the same stages as seven-time world rally champion Sebastien Loeb, if at slightly slower speeds.

Martin’s support crew is very experienced with his good friend Nigel Griffiths servicing. Griffiths won

the event in 2010 and finished second last year.

Shaun’s brother Steve is on the team while his mum and ten-year-old niece Sarah are helping as well.
