Masters of their art

The weather was as sparkling as the performance by the club’s A team, led from the front by Tom Mullen, who broke records on all three of the legs he covered during the day.

Phil Payne broke records on two of his three legs, while Phil Hardaway and Richard Sutor also broke one each.

Rob Watts ran the fastest leg of the day, completing the 3.75 mile leg 10 in 22:26 and then bravely finishing his last leg despite picking up an injury. 

Mark Davies had been under the weather all week but still ran superbly, helping to bring the team home in just over 11hrs 14mins, making history as the fastest Harriers time over the longer route.

The mixed Harriers B team also performed with credit and comprised three ladies and three vets: Ann Sinnett, Kat Bunker, Maresa Pitt, Tim Hicks, Richard Haynes and Carl Bicknell. They completed the course in a solid 13hrs 24mins.

Full results for all the teams were not to hand at the time of going to press but that performance should have put them fairly high up in the B team standings. 

As always the event was fantastically well organised and special thanks should go to the team bus drivers, including club coach Martin Delbridge, chairman Mark Sykes, plus Andy Carter and Bob Hickman. Also deserving praise were the marshals, who included John Rix and Rupert Purchase from the Harriers.

Meanwhile, over in Surrey the Sussex Masters track and field championships were taking place at Ewell Court, where the Harriers team put on a fantastic display that produced multiple first places in various disciplines.

Michelle Holdstock won the F35 discus and 100m, and was second in the 400m, while Linda Tullett won the F45 100m in 15.2.
