Medal double for ace Owen

Badminton prospect Owen West-Bourne enjoyed his best result to date in Bournemouth.

The St Leonards-based talent won gold and silver medals at the Badminton England Under-13 Bournemouth Silver Tournament.

In the boys doubles, Owen teamed up with Ollie Chapman (Bucks) for the first time this season. The pair played better and better each match to reach the final where they met Luke Bailey and Thomas Allen (Kent).

Owen and Ollie won the first game 16-14 and lost the second by the same score. But they eased ahead in the decider, winning 15-6 to take the gold medal - Owen’s first at national level.

In the mixed doubles, Owen formed a new partnership with Molly Chapman, Ollie’s twin sister. In a straight knockout tournament, the pair eased through to the finals where they met the established pair of Ollie Chapman and Keya Patani. Owen and Molly played well in losing 14-16, 10-15 to take the silver medal.

Owen attends Claverham Community College and trains twice-per-week at the Horsham Arun Badminton England Performance Centre under head coach Tanya Woodward.
