Merritt ends angling match with merit

THE Richard Morgan memorial fishing match took place on Chichester Canal at Hunston, organised by Stedham Angling Club in memory of a much-loved member who died some years ago.

Overal winner was Nick Merritt with a 17lb 7oz haul, second was Andy King with 10lb 7oz and third Alan Cooper 9lb 12oz.

Section winners were Robert Stevens (3lb 12oz), John Wright (7lb 4oz) and Alex King (7lb 10oz).

The winning team, named Favourites, comprised Nick Merritt, Alan Cooper, Steve Worth and Ivor Osbourne, who landed an overall weight of 34lb 7oz.

The weather was a mixed bag of sun, cloud, wind and rain. The best catches were in certain sections and anglers took their chance when they chose their peg. Some were in full sun all day and others had shade and lilies in their swim.

A couple of anglers came from London to compete and they said that despite their poor catches, they had a great time, enjoyed the camaderie and would love to fish down this way again.
