Michael joins triathlon team

BUXTED resident Michael Francis has been selected as a member of the TRI UK triathlon team for a series of national and international races throughout the 2006 season.He will be sponsored by Tri UK, Foor, Mpower eyewear, Saucony, Aquasphere, Carnac, Easton, Fizik and Cannondale.

The Tri UK race team has been one of the most successful in Europe with 100 top-three finishes, over 250 top-three age group finishes and numerous Great Britain and home nations's team appearances. Team manager Ali Boon said: 'We have grown the race team to a 50+ strong team which is now the envy of the triathlon world. Michael's dedication and loyalty meant that he was an obvious choice for the team.'

Southdown Pheasants narrowly lost out in the semi-final of the Eastbourne District Cup 3-2 to David Lloyd.

Paddy Butler was beaten 3-1, captain John Shepherd lost 3-2 in a game that went to the wire, Nev Carter comprehensively beat his opponent 3-1, Geoff Harmer also had a confident 3-1 victory but Andy Gray was just beaten 3-2 to end a tense encounter.

The Peacehaven Kicks karate squad achieved fine results at the EKR International Open Championships in Worthing.

In the kumite Shem Katz and William Scott won gold, James Gow, Luke Gold and Bradley Sweetman silver and Laurence Knight, Andrew Bennett and Neil Irvine bronze while in the Kata Neil Irvine took gold, Bradley Sweetman and Jack Donnelly silver and Shem Katz and Nathan Jay bronze.
