Mick carries singles hopes

Bryan Mills bowed out of the county unbadged singles to leave Mick O’Donnell as the only Lindfield challenger for a quarter final place after his win over Newick’s Des Foord.

In the triples Roger Willmott, Terry Hughes and Graeme Geddie won away for the second week running but in the fours Steven Bollschweiler, Willmott, Peter Gascall and Hughes had victory snatched fromn their grasp when Preston’s Dave Bibby trailed the jack with his last bowl when facing match lie.

In contrast, Keith Holman’s quartet picked up four shots on the last end to steal a 21-20 after trailing all the way.

In the pairs Ian Watson and Tom Palmer face a tough trip to Preston after Peter Morgan ended the hopes of Chris Reynolds and Roger Green in the second round.

Holman continued his run in the county singles with a 21-7 home win against John Baker and in the champion of champions David Glossop will face 2011 winner Peter Carter in the second round after putting out Graham Voller.

In the Mid Sussex champion of champions Carol Watson won 21-13 at Southgate and later in the week teamed up with Sue Willmott to win 25-13 in the county pairs at Henfield. Willmott and Shirley Nelson also beat Preston in the over 55 pairs.

A St Francis four of Rod Cobby, Neil Levesley, Doug Jones and Doug Carter won the last end to edge out Southwick 20-17 in the Edward Rowland.

Burgess Hill men’s A team had a one shot win over Hollingbury A in the National Club Two Fours but the ladies lost by the same margin to Uckfield in the county Top Club. In the national mixed over 60s double rink, Hill A have a third round match with Chichester.
