Midhurst move towards being area's top cricket club

Midhurst Cricket Club are eagerly awaiting the start of the new cricket season after a successful 2010 campaign which brought promotion as champions for the second and third XIs.

With two sides in the Hampshire League – in division one and division four north – there will be better opportunities for Midhurst’s promising young players to gain valuable experience in senior league cricket.

First-team skipper Tim Powell said: “I fully expect some of our junior players to be pushing hard for first-team places this season.

“The first team need to find improvement in all aspects and I’m targeting a top-six finish this season.”

Richard Gough has similar ambitions for the second team. “Our ambition remains to get the second XI closer to the first XI in the league so transition between the teams is easier and our younger players can experience high-level league cricket while benefiting from the wealth of experience that our more senior players bring to the team.”

The thirds hope to build on a successful transformation under skipper Dan Moon.

With more young players coming through Midhurst’s impressive junior system, there will be competition for places in all teams and Midhurst are always on the lookout for more players, coaches, umpires and scorers.
