Mitchell has pro goal

UPPER BEEDING-based cycling star Peter Mitchell had his first Great Britain Under-18 training camp recently and now has his sights on turning professional.

Mitchell, 16, a sprint cyclist, has been cycling for three and a half years since joining local club, VC Jubilee. He started off doing road endurance courses and started sprint cycling just a year ago. He also recently raced in the Revolution Series in Manchester, where he was against international riders for the first time.

Mitchell, who studies A Level double maths, chemistry, biology and PE at Steyning Grammar School, said: "Getting into the Great Britain squad rounds off a perfect year. It was my last goal.

"My main aim was the National Championships, and after I won that, it capped the whole year.

"I'll now hopefully get selected for the European and World Championships in Germany and Mexico next year. I've never rode abroad before, although will maybe get a chance in February half-term in an event in Belgium."
