THE latest members’ strokeplay competitions at Bay View Golf Club produced tight finishes – over both nine and 18 holes.
In the shorter format, after a single round of the par-32 course, victory went to John Seager on countback from Linda Corcoran.
Both had finished with a net 30-and-a-half. Over 18 holes, for the monthly medal, the winner was Mark Jarvis, with a net 59.
That was one stroke ahead of runner-up John Scheepers and, in third place, John Rattray – who, again, could be separated only on countback. The best gross score of the day over 18 holes was recorded by Les Dervish, with 67.
The prize for the day’s tee-shot nearest the pin on the short fourth was won by Ron Collins.
n ON the first Saturday of August, Lewes golfers competed in the Broadbent Spoons.
The winners of this even are the pair with the best combined Stableford scores. Top on the day were Trevor Goswell (38 points) and Nigel Couchman (36 points total 74 points). Second was John Burch (42 points) and Eric Cramp (30 points total 72 points) and third were Andy Tasker (40 points) and John Hart (31 points total 71 points).
The Division 1 winner of the monthly Medal played August 5 was Tom Richardson with a nett 69. Second was Ian Burch on countback with nett 69 and third was Ian Moore (nett 70).
Division 2 was won by Stephen Winter with a magnificent nett 60, second Ade Hardcastle nett 67 and third was Nigel Pearson with net 67.
Midweek medal August 2 was won by John Burch nett 72, second was Dave Maktellow nett 75 and third was Sid Francis nett 76.
The Ladies Triple Six competition played August 1 was won by the Ladies Captain Judy Keys and the Vice Captain Mandy Quick with a nett 73.5. Second were Claudine Lower and Hilary Osman (nett 77.5) and third were Lucia Simpson and Rosemarie Varley (nett 78.5).
The Summer Eclectic played on the July 31 was won by Don Fuller (31 points). Second was Alan Burrows (29 points) and third was Dave Windless (28 points).
The Summer Eclectic played on August 7 was won by Jez Graves (25 points). Second was Dave Windless (25 points) and third was Billy Medlock (25 points).
n WELLSHURST entertained old adversaries Hawkhurst last Wednesday and won a closely-fought rain affected match by 3.5 ties to 2.5.
