After winning the Sussex Veteran’s League it was always going to be tough for Lewes Athletics Club and Haywards Heath to do well at the South East Counties final against the might of clubs from Southampton, Oxford and South London.

Even so the team representing Sussex had some great performances and finished a creditable sixth team of eight.

There were some great times in the sprint events with Ben Radcliffe (13.22sec) and Ciaran Harvey (12.28) coming second and fifth in their respective races. Mark Rahman ran a brilliant race in the over 50s category in 12.79sec.

Ciaran and Mark also ran in the 200m with both being pipped into third place in their races. Ciaran also ran a very impressive 400m race, coming third in 57.1sec with Mark Cage and Mark McLoughlin coming fourth in their races.

In the 800m and 1500m races, Mark McLoughlin (2min 16sec), Mark Cage (2:20), and Jonathan Burrell (2:27) all scored good points in the 800m. Jonathan and Mark McLoughlin in the 1500m, gained fourth and third.

Chris Gilbert ran a superb time in the 3000m of 9min 47sec with Paul Cousins’ time of 10:12 gaining him second in the over 50 age category.
