A busy eight-day spell for the Eastbourne IT First Eagles began in perfect style last Saturday night at Arlington with a 55 - 35 win over Cradley.
It was the club’s biggest win of the season as the Eagles’ big guns of Adam Ellis and Jake Knight tamed the powerful Cradley top three.
Eastbourne’s reserves Charley Powell and Luke Harris were also well in the points winning the battles which club director Connor Dugard had pinpointed as vital in the run-up to the meeting.
The only downside was a suspected broken collarbone for Gary Cottham - continuing an appalling run of injuries for the Eagles in season 2016.
Club chairman Martin Dugard said: “It was a great win. They kept it quite close to the middle of the meeting.
“Our reserves were much better than they had been previously. That was a good turnaround.
“We have done a lot of work on Charley Powell’s bike to help h im stay on it.
“We are now fine tuning Ellis Perks’s stuff and once we have done that we will be 100 per cent stable.”
Dugard said everyone had worked hard as a team.
“We had a good chat and everyone knows where we are coming from. I think you can see now that we are quite stable and we have a bit of atmosphere back in the place again.”
Eastbourne will use the rider replacement rule to cover for Cottham at Rye House on Monday and at Birmingham on Wednesday.
Adam Ellis in unavailable for both matches. Dan Bewley steps in at Rye and Matt Williamson at Birmingham.
Next meeting at Arlington is on Saturday, June 4, against Buxton.
