Eagles keep up the pressure on Elite League leaders

Eastbourne Eagles kept up the pressure in the Elite League on Saturday night with a 54-38 win against Birmingham.

It was pretty much plain sailing for the Eagles after the first couple of heats when first Lukas Dryml and then Denis Gizatullin were caught out by a damp track – caused by watering and not, for once, rain.

It was on a 5-1 in heat 15 and a tactical ride 6-3 in heat in 12 that gave Birmingham so respectability.

Danny King and Ben Barker were their stars while last year’s No 1 Eagle, Bjarne Pedersen, endured a torrid time.

For Eastbourne Timo Lahti again top scored with only Gizatullin disappointing.

Tonight (Monday) the Eagles are at Peterborough. On Thursday they go to Swindon and on Friday entertain King’s Lynn at Arlington.
