Piltdown Golf Club ladies held their summer invitation meeting on June 13.

The winners were Sheila Williams and her guest, Chris Kernohan of Haywards Heath Golf Club, with 36 points.

Poo Adams and Sue Eccles (Royal Ashdown) were runners-up with 34, and two pairs scored 32: Penny Malloy and Tina Robertson (Royal Ashdown), and Veronica Humphrey and Ezzie Massey (Crowborough).

The best on the front nine were Mary Whitty and Sally Ann Duke (Dulwich) with 17 points; the best on the back nine were Margaret Wright and Julia Thompson (Royal Ashdown), also with 17.

The prize for the best total score on the par threes went to Penny Pursey and Lynn Adams (Cuckfield).

The guest nearest the pin on the seventh hole was Felicity Beard (West Sussex); the member nearest the 18th pin was Catherine Scrivens.

The Douglas Bader – a nation-wide tournament for Mixed Greensomes pairs – took place on Sunday June 16.

A fine, dry, and for a change virtually windless afternoon brought a strong entry and some high scores – the men bravely grasping the nettle of the daunting back tees.

Harvey and Jo Linehan won, yet again – they also won the other “major”, the Hamilton Russell 36-hole mixed foursomes in May.

Two unlucky pairs finished with 41 points, Nigel Roddis and Angela May, and Tsol Keoshgerian and Veronica Humphrey.

The Linehans now go through to the Regional Finals to be held, at Piltdown, on Wednesday August 7th, in the morning, and we wish them continued success.
