Hailsham Swimming Club took part in the Sussex Counties relay gala, in Horsham, on Sunday September 8.

For the first time in the club’s history, Hailsham entered teams across the majority of age group events, due to the improved standards of the club’s swimmers over recent years.

The girls’ 9-10 years team stole the show, putting in superb performances to reach the finals, qualifying third fastest in both their events.

An unfortunate disqualification in the 4 x 50m Individual Medley race saw them stripped of third place – but this young team came back fighting in the 4 x 50m Freestyle final.

Macy Ring got them off to a really strong start, which was built on by Maesie Lane and Isobel Edwards.

A speedy last leg by Milly Widdop secured them the Bronze medal.

Well done to all the Hailsham teams that competed.

Meanwhile, the boys’ 9-10 years achieved 11th place in both their events.

The club’s 11-12 year girls came 19th in the Medley relay and 11th in the Freestyle.

The 11-12 years boys’ team just missed out on a place in the finals of the Individual Medley race, coming ninth overall.

The club’s boys in the 13-14 years age group came 11th in the Medley relay and 12th in the Freestyle.

Concluding the day of racing was the senior boys’ team.

They achieved 12th in the Medley event and 13th in the Freestyle relay.
