A handful of Hailsham Hornets swimmers had a break from eating too much chocolate over Easter, and competed in the Portsmouth Northsea Easter Swim Festival 2014 from 17th to 20th April 2014.
This level 1 long-course meet was held at the Mountbatten Centre.
Thirteen year old Joe Golding performed excellently in the 1500m Freestyle, reducing his race time by an impressive 54 seconds and gaining the bronze medal in his age group. Joe also achieved the South East regional level qualification time for this event.
Maddie Drury (14) also found her form in the long distance Freestyle event, finishing in fifth place in the 800m, in a time of 9.54.43. This superb swim earned her a personal best and regional qualifying time. Maddie also competed in the 400m Freestyle and 100m Backstroke, in which she was placed 16th and 11th.
Strong swims by Nathan Pashler (16) achieved him a fifth place finish in the 200m Backstroke and 11th in the 100m Freestyle events. Craig Steenhoff (31) competed brilliantly in the Open age group Butterfly races, to be ranked 6th over 50m and 12th over 100m distances.
Bethany Collins (14) had a great swim in the 100m Backstroke and came within the top ten girls in her age group, finishing ninth place. Younger sister Gemma Collins (12) also swam a good Backstroke race, resulting in a 16th place finish.
