Hailsham swimmers sprint to success!

Swimmers from Hailsham Performance Squad got into the festive spirit by competing in the Santa Sprint Open Meet, hosted by Hastings at the Sommerfields Leisure Centre. The team were on amazing form, coming away with a total of 49 medals!

Ben Shorthouse (9) started the day on a high by winning the 100m Individual Medley race in a personal best time of 1.40.46. Brilliant swims gained Ben a further gold medal in the 50m Backstroke, silvers in 50m Butterfly and 50m Breaststroke, and bronze in the 50m Freestyle event.

Oliver Thornton (10) sprinted to success in all races, taking home silver medals in 100m Individual Medley, 50m Freestyle, Butterfly, Breaststroke and Backstroke. Tom Barden took a clean sweep of golds in the eleven years age group, winning each of the 50m races across all strokes and the 100m Individual Medley race.

Sam Avery (14) competed hard and continued to contribute to Hailsham medal tally. Super swims gained Sam gold medals in 50m Backstroke and 50m Breaststroke, and secured him silver place finishes in the 100m Individual Medley and 50m Freestyle.

Nathan Pashler (17) put in some impressive sprints to take silver in 50m Freestyle and Backstroke, and bronze in 50m Butterfly. Craig Steenhoff (32) was victorious in the 50m Butterfly race gaining gold, as well as silver in the Individual Medley.

Well done to our bronze medallists: Joe Golding (50m Butterfly and Breaststroke), Lachlan Gower (50 Freestyle and Backstroke) and George Gadsden (50m Freestyle).

Our girls also put in some great performances in pool. Abbie Shorthouse (11) gained medals in all five races, finishing in top spot in 50m Butterfly and 50m Backstroke. Abbie’s success continued as she secured silvers in 50m Freestyle and Backstroke, and she topped off the day with a bronze in 100m Individual Medley.

Ruby Gower had a great swim in the 50m Backstroke to gain bronze, as did Maddie Drury (15) who achieved silver in this event. Maddie also went to attained a further silver in the 50m Freestyle sprint.

An amazing swim by Adelaide Barden (14) in the 50m Butterfly gained her a well-deserved gold. Adelaide also sprinted to silver place in the 50m Freestyle and 100m Individual Medley races.

Alisha Gurr (13) continued Hailsham’s excellent form, with fantastic race performances in 50m Butterfly and Backstroke, which earned her second place finishes. Alisha recorded a personal best time in the 50m Freestyle to pick up bronze in this event along with 50m Breaststroke and 100m Individual Medley.

In an exciting conclusion to the days racing Nathan Pashler, Craig Steenhoff, Sasha Goldsmith, Adelaide Barden, and Maddie Drury all qualified for the finale skins event, further to their results in the 100m Individual Medley swims. The skins event consists of 50m sprints, in which the slowest swimmer is eliminated in each round. The racing stroke for each round was decided at random, by each contestant drawing from a bag. Maddie won the 14 years+ event collecting £25.00 prize money for her achievement.
