Three of Hailsham Hornets young swimmers recently qualified to compete in the South East Regional Age Group Championships.
This high level competition commenced on 31st May and ran over two weekends, with the final sessions concluding on 15th June.
Milly Widdop (11) performed brilliantly across both weekends; recording personal best times in all four of the races she qualified for. Milly’s best result came after an amazing 100m Breaststroke swim. She finished in a fantastic time of 1.30.22 and is now ranked 7th in the whole of the South East for this event. She also achieved 10th place in the 200m Breaststroke event and 11th in 200m Butterfly. Despite this being her first long course experience of swimming the 400m Individual Medley, she rose to the challenge and improved her race time.
Joe Golding (13) found his form in the long distance freestyle events. Joe swam a strong
800m Freestyle race, gaining a great time of 19.29.53 and finishing in 19th place. In the 400m event Joe made his mark, leading the heat at the 200m point. He went on to finish 3rd in his heat in an improved race time of 4.47.12, which was the third best time logged by a Sussex swimmer of his age.
Frankie Lee (11) had a superb 100m Butterfly race. He was seeded 20th out of 25 swimmers going into the event, but blew away the competition to finish in 12th overall. Frankie recorded a new personal best time of 1.21.13, which was the fastest time recorded by a Sussex swimmer within in age group.
