Harry Reilly, a player at Heathfield & Waldron rugby club has been selected to play for the Ireland Clubs U18 rugby team.

This follows an outstanding start to the season with both the club, the unbeaten Sussex U18 county team and the Irish Exiles sides.

Reilly, a fly half and inside centre, has just returned from a two-day training camp in Ashbourne. He said; “It’s been an amazing experience so far, and I’m working hard to develop my game further so that I can contribute to the team.

“The club has been incredibly supportive and helped me with video analysis and one-to-one sessions that have really helped.”

He was a major part of the success of the U17 side winning the RFU National Bowl final last season, and that were recently crowned as Sussex Young Team of the Year.

Coming up are fixtures against Ireland Schools, Italy and Scotland, before the side competes in the U18 European rugby championship. Reilly qualifies for Ireland through his paternal grandfather.

Hadon Westerby, the club’s rugby development officer said, “Harry and his whole family have been loyal supporters of the club from mini rugby days, and it’s fantastic to see him earning this opportunity.

“He’s a great example of what we try to achieve at the club, not just in terms of his undoubted on the field ability, but also off-field too; where is often supporting senior teams, doing individual practice or coaching younger players.”

With England hosting the Rugby World Cup in 2015, and Rugby Sevens an Olympic sport in 2016 now is a perfect time to come to HWRFC and get involved with rugby. Everyone is welcome to give rugby a try and more information about the club can be found on the club website, by contacting Hadon Westerby on 07887 525 080 or emailing; ydo.hwrfc@gmail.com
