With Chichester Centurions Ladies unable to field a team, Hailsham Ladies 1st XI picked up a walkover 5-0 victory without hitting a ball.
Both the Men’s 1st XI and Millers’ games were postponed because of snow on pitches at Crawley and East Grinstead respectively.
Hailsham Mens 2s continued their winning streak with a 4-1 victory against Brighton Brigands. Mick Buckingham’s short corner strike opened the scoring, with Taf Mpandawana latching onto a pass soon after to score the second.
Buckingham’s second short corner strike found the Brighton back board to give Hailsham a 3-0 half-time lead.
The second half brought Hailsham’s fourth goal, with Martin Headey’s cross being turned in by a Brighton player, before Brighton managed to scrabble a consolation goal past stand-in keeper Mark Patton. The result puts the team top of the table in Sussex Open Division 4, although second-placed Mid Sussex 3s have a game in hand and are only two points adrift.
Hailsham Ladies 2s travelled to Chichester Priroy Park Ladies 3s. Hailsham showed from the start they were the more experienced team and it wasn’t long before Nicky Ouzman opening the scoring with a lovely strike from the top of the circle. Within 10 minutes Lou Forwood had doubled the visitor’s lead with another super strike into the corner of the goal. As the second half started, Chi began to test the Hailsham defence and were soon rewarded with a goal from a short corner routine.
With the lead narrowed to 2-1, Amy Green now stepped up to the mark, belting the ball into the home side’s goal from the edge of the D.
With 10 minutes to go Hailsham sealed the win with a scramble in front of the Chichester goal in which Green managed to get the ball over the line. The Ladies now sit second in Sussex Ladies League Div 3 with only six games left to play. They host Brighton & Hove on Saturday.
