Buxted Park Bowls Club have had another very busy week.

On Friday they held the Mid Sussex Charity Day in aid of St Wilfrid’s Hospice with 18 teams competing and raised £600. The winners were a West Hoathly team. The runners-up were a team from The Downsman of Crawley.

On Sunday they held their Invitation Day with 24 teams from the area competing. Although there had been rain overnight the green played well and conditions were good. The final was exciting with very close ends but May and George Urban and Norman and Linda Pugsley won from a Woodingdean team.

On Sunday morning eight players competed and lost in the final of the Tom Francis Double Fours at Haywards Heath and Beech Hurst against a team from Henfield. The green was very heavy due to the overnight rain which didn’t help the Buxted team.

Newick struggled against perpetual rivals West Hoathly in Mid Sussex League Division 1. Peter Carter’s rink lost to Nick Nesbitt’s and Maurice Awcock’s to Peter Doughty’s. But Janet Birch’s win was substantial enough to make the total shots score a draw. So the points went 6-4 to West Hoathly.

The John Spriggs Division 2 game at Ad Astra was a disaster for Newick who never came to terms with the heavy green. The home team won on the three rinks so taking all 10 points.
