Inclement weather sees all but one Wealden Bowls Club competition wiped out

The inclement weather in the early part of the week made travelling arrangements difficult and caused the postponement of Wealden Men’s Sussex League game against Preston.

But one competition that did go ahead was the London and Southern Counties third round tie against Grattons.

This event is played on a single rink of four players and by tradition the Wealden team is always made up from the holders of the Club’s Men’s Fours competition and not a specially selected team.

Against a strong Grattons side they fell behind from early on in the game and although this was never at this stage a match-winning lead, the writing was on the wall as the Wealden Four gradually fell further behind.

A deficit of eight shots at the interval was never insurmountable but from then on the Grattons team pulled away so much so that the Wealden side conceded after 14 ends with the score at eight shots to 22, a disappointing way to end a good run in the competition.
