It snowed this week. Roads blocked, schools closed, trains disrupted. It can only mean one thing... the speedway season is about to start.
I have been to many speedway practice days in my life – and two have been in the snow, writes Richard Hudson. I don’t want to secure the hat-trick tomorrow (Saturday) when the Eastbourne Lifestyle Eagles throw open the doors of the Arlington Stadium for the first time this year.
The practice session gets underway from 12.45pm and the club – wisely in my opinion – are pushing the line that entrance to the event is free.
It might entice a few to take a look – and hopefully they will like what they see and come back the following Saturday and pay to watch the Elite League match against Belle Vue.
Of course, some of this year’s Eagles have already turned in a few laps at Arlington in behind-closed-doors sessions. Cameron Woodward and Bjarne Pedersen were first off the mark. Timo Lahti looked particularly impressive on Sunday, I’m told. By the time you read this – weather permitting – perhaps most of the others will have had at least one spin.
If you don’t know about speedway come take a look.
