Lewes’ last home match of season is a big derby clash with league leaders

Lewes 1st XV have their last home match of the season tomorrow (Saturday), a tough local derby against Brighton, who are currently top of London 2 SE and anticipating automatic promotion if they can hold onto No 1 slot. A large crowd is expected at the Stanley Tuner Ground for this key clash, KO 3pm.

A Lewes side containing players from all three senior teams played an Easter Saturday friendly at Newick against a combined Newick/Plumpton XV. In an entertaining match appreciated by a large crowd, Lewes ran out 51-17 winners.

Flanker/winger Tom Pashley scored a hat-trick; his next match is on Saturday for England Colleges XV at Worcester.

A packed clubhouse saw the club’s Junior Awards on Friday.

The winners were:

U13 – player of year: Marcus Millar; team player of year: Todd Blackburn; most improved player of year: Jack Davidian-Judd.

U14 – player of year: Harry Sandicott; team player of year: Cian Furlong; most improved player of year: Toby Gibson-Young.

U15 – player of year: Ethan Edwards; team player of year: Seb Davis-Fredericks; most improved players of year: Elliot Watson and Peter Carter.

U16 – player of year: Tom Derrick; team player of year: Rory Bines-Morris; most improved player of year: Joe Nash.

The Colts’ awards were delayed as many of the team was at a tournament in Bath representing the South East for Sussex Downs College.
