Last Sunday, the Sussex Cycling Association hosted their annual prize-giving lunch at Dial Post, which saw members of the Lewes Wanderers Cycling Club featuring heavily on the honours board. Tamar Vanderhaas underlined her tremendous potential with a clutch of trophies in recognition of her spectacular season.
Tamar was the Ladies Long Distance BAR champion, first Ladies Vet, and winner of the 25 and 50 mile distances, her 50 ride in record breaking time.
Wanderers claimed the blue ribbon 25 mile team trophy, the winning team featuring Tom Glandfield, Phil Allen, Rob Rollings and James Ryan. Lewes also won the B team trophy in this event with Duncan Fuller, Sam Ramsey and Alan Lloyd claiming medals.
Lewes dominated the 12-hour awards, with Paul Gibbons crowned the 12-hour champion. Paul had previously won this event at the tender age of nineteen, some twenty five years ago! Paul teamed up with Micky Turner and Peter Baker to win the team trophy, with Peter Baker deservedly winning the Vets award.
With a lull in cycling activities, press releases for the Wanderers will take its customary mid-winter break to return in the New Year. On a personal note, this will be my last press release and I would like to take this opportunity to wish all readers and supporters of the Wanderers a very Happy Christmas and New Year.
