Newly opened Eastbourne Boxing Club hosted its second fight show with Meg Dhanji winning the bout of the night on a points decision.

The most recent event hosted by the boxing club was held at the dinner show at the Cumberland Hotel on Saturday, January 31.

Guests from all over the town were treated to an excellent three course meal with a ringside view of 14 top flight bouts.

Six Eastbourne boxers were matched and the performances did not disappoint the onlooking crowd.

Bantamweight Meg ‘Dancer’ Dhanji stepped in to the ring for her first ever bout against Zoe Charge of Colchester. A tremendous bout where Dhanji used her jab, quick backhand and movement to outscore Charge in what was eventually given the prestigious bout of the night trophy.

Chloe Taylor faced a tough and slick opponent in Bianca Haynes from Loxford, London. Taylor was the aggressor but Haynes managed to counter with well timed backhands to keep the strong Taylor at bay. Haynes winning the decision.

Light Welterweight Will Gray also found a tough opponent in Loxford’s Villus Alisauskas. The London boxer was able to use his extra height and reach to outpoint Gray despite some good work on the inside. A points decision in favour of Alisauskas.

Lightweight Mark Preston performed with discipline to pressure the counter punching Any Moore from Gym01, Portsmouth. Preston used good head movement and explosive right hands to pressure the southpaw and achieve a points victory.

Super heavyweight Paul ‘Sky high’ Orji stepped in against Exeter’s Harrison Dent. 107kg Orji was able to impress with a lightning jab and powerful backhand on the target area to force a second round TKO. An excellent performance with silky boxing from a well cultured Superheavy.

Last and proverbially not least, Captain and Open Class middleweight Lee Jenkins won a high technical and physical bout against Hayden Bullock of Crawley. Both going toe to toe, giving away very little. Jenkins was able to push Buldock back scoring to head and body to earn a tight split decision.

Eastbourne Boxing Club would like to thank all of the clubs who came from across the country to compete, with a special mention to our Sponsors; Prestige Stair lifts, Matthew Budd Carpentry, Jazz Barbers and AW Steel. ‘The venue was perfect, very intimate with roaring support. The Cumberland Hotel laid on fantastic food for the guests in the beautiful Cumberland Suite.’
