TEENAGE riding sensation Mel Pocock from Heathfield closed the gap on the ACU British Motocross Championship leader to just eight points with a superb win in Northern Ireland at the weekend.
In perfect racing conditions at Desertmartin, the 19 year old had disputed the lead in the first MX2 moto until he crashed into the bank and had to charge through the pack from ninth to finish third.
Race two had the spectators on the edge as the leaders fought a thrilling duel, with Mel finally making a spectacular pass to take the chequered flag.
In Race three Mel gated third and rapidly moved into scored before harrying the leader and waiting for him to make a mistake. His patience paid off and he took the chequered flag for the second time, giving the overall for the meeting.
