Lewes Bridge View Martial Arts ace Mia Goode defied the odds and secured a bronze medal from her first ever open competition at Worthing last weekend.

Mia was one of three competitors from the club who tested their skills at the South Coast under-16s Open Competition.

Mia was up against more experienced and higher graded players but she fought bravely and was awarded a well-deserved runner’s up bronze medal for her efforts.

Mia’s older brother Jonah, fast becoming another regular competitor, also found himself fighting tougher and more experienced opponents. Jonah didn’t medal this time but gained a great deal of experience from the competition.

Eleanor Kearley found herself in a mixed weight category, which included several of her Sussex Squad team-mates. Pitted against some very confident players, Eleanor was pleased to come away with the silver medal for her weight group.

A club statement read: “With only one more competition of 2015 coming up in December, the club are looking forward to seeing the final results. It has been a very successful year.”
