Local players featured in the double bill of English stoolball success on Sunday.
Anita Broad, Education and Research Officer at Stoolball England, said: “It was a successful day for both England teams at Horsham Cricket Ground.”
The Under 21s scored 150 before bowling out the President’s XI for 81, and later the Over 50s scored 209 which proved too much for the President’s XI to match in their 20 overs (they they fell 60 runs short of the England target with just three wickets left).
“The England games at Horsham were amazing on Sunday,” added Anita. “The victorious England Over 50 Ladies side was captained by Gill Hemsley, of Newick Stoolball Club.
“She was the top scorer with 80 runs.
“Also playing was Alison Yaafe, of Maresfield Stoolball Club, while the U21s England team included Donna Cottingham from Newick SC and Amy Isted from Barcombe SC (was in the President’s XI team).
“There was a large crowd spectating and even though the games are in Horsham, local people may like to go and watch these historic games.”
The next match is the England Ladies v President’s XI at Horsham Cricket Club this Sunday, 11am start. There is free entry and parking.
