PAV Golf Trophy news with John Vinicombe

THE second round of the PAV Trophy produced no real surprises. Holders East Sussex National eased through at the expense of Crowborugh Beacon.

But no Eastbourne club will feature in the third round after The Downs went down 6.5-5.5 to Hill Barn, Bognor ended Willingdon’s hopes 7-5 – and Royal Eastbourne made Lewes pull out all the stops before losing 7-5.

There was little to choose in the foursomes. But Lewes came up with four singles wins to two for the Royals. Matt Wilson and Mark Taylor disposed of Jon Williams and Mark Hilton to keep the Royal flag flying.

But it was lowered when Lewes took the initiative in the closing stages.

Both Seaford clubs made the third round and each has the good fortune again to be drawn at home.

East Blatchington host Bognor while Chartham Park go to the Head.

The match at East Blatchington saw Seaford too strong for Ham Manor by 8.5-3.5, while Rustington, near neighbours of Ham Manor, went down 8-4 at the cliff top venue.

Another close match saw Peacehaven bounce back from a 2.5-1.5 foursomes deficit. Wins for Shaun Stepney, Alex Anderson, James Jordan plus halves by Rene Duchossoy and Dave Gentry pushed Sedlescombe to the limit. They came through 6.5-5.5 thanks to halves by David Wicks, Trevor Saull-Hunt and Michael Farrier Twist and Chris Cotton winning the last two singles.
