Lewes earned themselves a decent point and kept a second successive clean sheet in this goalless draw at Canvey Island on Saturday.
The Rooks will be pleased by the performance of new loan signing, 18-year-old midfielder Arron Wickham from League 1 Crawley Town.
But they will be concerned over the fitness of captain Steve Robinson and influential midfielder Karl Beckford after both were forced off with injury.
Two equally matched sides sides at the Prospects Stadium more or less cancelled each other out.
Chris Breach headed wide early on and Danny Heale forced a good save from Lewes keeper Kieron Thorp.
Robinson was forced off after 32 minutes through injury – but the Rooks had a more than able substitute in fellow 2008 title-winner Jay Conroy, and both defences remained strong.
And Beckford’s replacement, Max Howell, also did well when he came on for the second half – and probably created the best chance of the game when he shot from distance at Canvey keeper Ashley Jones, who did well to push the ball around the post at full stretch.
Wickham also had a couple of chances during the game, although the hosts could have bagged the points with four minutes to go when a Ashley Millar mis-hit shot was nearly turned in by the dangerous Heale.
Next Saturday sees Lewes in FA Cup arena away to Sussex County Football League side Redhill. Kick off is 3pm.
Lewes: Thorp, Cooper, Breach, Robinson (Conroy 32), Hamilton, Schaaf, Wickham, Brinkhurst, Beckford (Howell 45), Thomas (Dalhouse 76), Crabb.
