Fran Rawlins opened her bid to join the 2013 GB Rowing squad in fine style at the Diamond Jubilee Regetta at Eton Dorney, the London Olympic rowing venue.

Competing against a fiercely competitive field of open-weight and lightweight rowers, including Gold medallist Kat Copeland and established GB squad members who have competed at World and European championships this year, the Uckfield-born hopeful impressed.

Fran placed fourth overall (third in the lightweight category) on Saturday with club partner Anna Roots in the Double Scull and followed this up on Sunday with a bronze medal (and second in the lightweight category) in the quadruple Scull, rowing with the same scratch crew which had performed so well for England at the Home International Regatta earlier this year.

The weekend’s regatta was the first of four trials in the GB rowing team selection calendar. Fran’s performance over the weekend has put her in the mix with some of the country’s top women scullers and will certainly have caught the eye of the GB selectors. Fran is now in preparation for the next stage of trials in Boston, Lincs next month.
