RUGBY: Plumpton are too good for strong Uckfield side

PLUMPTON hosted a strong Uckfield 2nd XV side at the weekend, winning 12-5.

Uckfield fielded their best side of the season, but it was no match for Plumpton who controlled the game throughout. Plumpton held the edge in both the scrum line-out and set piece, with their back line easily a match for the your Uckfield line. The first try came on 25 minutes, as fly-half James Burgess took a switch of scrum half Lewis Beale to score under the posts, converted by Lewis Beale. Uckfield scored a well-worked try in their back, but were unable to convert. Plumpton, however, held their nerve, with man-of-the-match Kiwi Grant Resterieux producing a number of line-out steals, allowing Alex Aston and Brody Forest to put Plumpton on the front foot throughout the second half. It was, however, the ageless Dave Lamb, playing only his second game of the season who crashed over after a mistake from the Uckfield 12 at the breakdown to score. A special mention should go to centre Sam Bates (pictured) who made a remarkable return from what seemed a career-ending knee injury to see out the last 15 minutes. He was the pick of the backs during that time. This week Plumpton take a week off before they travel to Hove for a top-of-the-table clash.
