In an effort to shake off the excesses of the festive period, there was an impressive gathering of Seaford Striders on the seafront for the club’s annual New Year’s Day run.

The three-mile run from the Martello Tower to the Sailing Club and back has been a tradition for more than 20 years.

With new year’s resolutions and new members in mind, the club prides itself on welcoming runners of all ages and abilities and includes a thriving Juniors section.

The Striders have also been very successful in the Sussex Grand Prix, being crowned champions on numerous occasions in recent years.

In 2012 the Striders finished fourth. Congratulations go to Wadhurst Runners who took the overall title.

The Striders will be hoping for a speedy return of the trophy in 2013.

A notable success for the club, though, was a third place for the Men’s Vet Team consisting of Phil Carr, Colin Hannant, Phil Robinson, Adrian Campbell and Richard Honeyman.

In the Men’s Individual competition, Phil Carr, Gareth Hutchinson and Clifford Evans all finished in the top 20, as did Claire Keith, Natalie McCreath and Sue Garner for the Ladies.

In addition the super consistent Phil Carr and Colin Hannant both finished second in their respective age categories and Sue Garner finished third.

A special mention is due for the remarkable Phil Robinson who ran all 20 races.

Finally, a word of thanks to Richard Honeyman who has stood down as press officer.
