SEAFORD Striders celebrated a successful 2011 at a presentation and social evening at the town’s Conservative Club at the end of last month.
The special guest of honour was Julia Armstrong, international athlete and life coach who presented some of the awards.
The awards evening was divided into five sections the details of which are in this week’s Sussex Express. Pick up your copy today before the next edition comes out tomorrow.
This year marked 25 years of Seaford Striders and the Striders marked a busy year, hosting two race events as well as winning the Sussex Grand Prix for the fourth year in succession amongst other things.
The Mince Pie 10-mile race last December raised £1,200 for the Seaford Downs Syndrome and Special Needs Support Group the cheque of which was also presented on the same night (see main picture on this page).
CHICHESTER 10k, the first Sussex Grand Prix event for 2012 took place on Sunday and several Striders travelled to West Sussex for the event.
Very cold conditions prevailed but there was less snow than in East Sussex this popular 10k is fast and the first part had a small route change making it faster still. Results were: Gareth Hutchinson, 37:52, Colin Hannant, 41:52, Phil Robinson, 41:41, Adrian Campbell, 42:52, Sue Garner, 48:17, Richard Kimber, 59:06.
THE combined Uckfield runners/Heathfield Road Runners finished second in the Cross Country at Ashdown Forest on Sunday, January 29.
This is there best result of the season, moving them to third place overall with one race to go. The weather was cold but dry with little wind so a good day for running the five-mile scenic hilly course which started at King Standing on Ashdown Forest.
There were six runners from Uckfield. With times, they were: Will Blandford 37.02, Graham West 37.03, Peter Wilkes 45.38, Catherine Harker 46.38, Tanya Edmundson 48.59 and Fleur Blandford 49.26.
