Simon Wormull explained the bizarre moment just before kick off when Joe Kay had to sprint from the substitutes’ bench to take up the left back berth – because the first choice full back was unable to start because of a jewellery malfunction.

Wormull said: “Dom Ozga had an earring that he couldn’t get out. But Joe Kay came in and did fantastic.

“It’s difficult when you’re not preparing for a game, you’re preparing to be a sub, and although we say to them to be ready, to be able to come straight on and do what he did is fantastic. It just shows how such a young side is willing to take responsibility on.”
