Morris honoured at Sidley awards night

SIDLEY United Football Club hosted a well-attended season-ending presentation evening at Cooden Beach Golf Club.

More than 100 people attended the prizegiving dinner on Friday, last week, as the club reviewed a difficult season that picked up in the latter stages.

The first team, who finished sixth-from-bottom of Sussex Division One, and the reserves, who came joint ninth in Reserve Section Premier of the Sussex County League, were joined by the club's under-16s side, who had a successful season in the Rother & South East Sussex Youth League, in handing out their awards.

The big winner of the evening was Graham Morris, who collected two of the first team's awards following a consistent season at the heart of what was, for the most part, a rather leaky defence. Kevin Rose, whose achievement of not getting sent-off throughout the entire season was frequently referred to, and Callum Wooller were the others to collect gongs among the senior ranks.

Sidley United 2004-05 roll of honour, first team: Supporters' Player of the Year - Graham Morris, Players' Player of the Year - Graham Morris, Manager's Player of the Year - Kevin Rose, Young Player of the Year - Callum Wooller. Reserve team: Players' Player of the Year - Chris Stewart, Managers' Player of the Year - Jake Daniels, Sportsmanship award - John Saunders. Other awards: Supporter of the Year - Steve Lee, Club Person of Year - Dave Kirk, Chairman's Cup - Pete & Hazel Sharpe.
