Mort-Hill fights off fierce competition

LOUIS MORT-HILL saw off some fierce competition as he secured the Worthing Youth League Table Tennis Challenge title on Saturday.

It proved to be a hugely popular event, with 23 players participating in the Youth League Challenge.

Mort-Hill, 14, faced some tough opposition on his way to the final, seeing off Alex Fox in the semi-final.

Wesley Stoner, who was Mort-Hill’s opponent in the final, beat Charlie Kennard to reach the last two.

The final proved to be a tight contest but it was Mort-Hill who romped to victory with a straight sets 11-7, 11-5 success and the youngster claimed the crown for the first time.

Sam Williamson took glory in the plate final after he overcame Cameron McCallum in what was a hugely entertaining final.

Also, at the event the titles from the season were handed out by organiser Ray Forder.

Mort-Hill collected a second prize as he and final opponent Stoner took the Division 1 crown.

McCallum and Hugo Okonda, who were the Blue Phoenix team, claimed top prize in Division 2, while Sachin Othendee and David Luff took the Division 3 title.

Fox and Nathaniel Davies claimed success in the doubles, with Jack Churcher winning the Handicap.

Fox took the final award of the Challenge, after he won the top prize in the Handicap second competition.

The new challenge starts Saturday January 10, 2015, and runs for 10 weeks. It’s open to any players aged eight to 15 - girls and boys all welcome.
