Eastbourne speedway ace through to European under-21 final

Rising Eastbourne Speedway ace Tom Brennan is through to the European Under-21 Final after an impressive display at Divišov in the Czech Republic.

He finished joint fourth on ten points to cap a remarkable fightback from a serious injury in May 2019 when he not only suffered a badly broken leg, but was placed in an induced coma for a few days after breathing complications following the injury.

GB youth speedway boss Neil Vatcher said: “This was Tom’s first competitive meeting since riding in Australia in late 2019, and he looked in good form and had a lot of speed, ending up winning his fourth ride as well as three second places.”

The European Under-21 final in Nagyhalász, Hungary, on September 12.

Cancellation of UK league speedway this year because of the Covid-19 pandemic has left Brennan, who lives in Hassocks, West Sussex, short of track time.

The HG Aerospace Eagle has travelled to King’s Lynn in Norfolk and Plymouth to practise ahead of his Under-21 title tilt.

He is also in the European Under-19 championship in the Czech Republic and will ride in the semi-final of that competition, along with teammates Jason Edwards and Drew Kemp, next Friday, August 14.
