Motorsport ace goes up a gear

LEWIS Bridger's glittering run of success in the world of motorsport has upped a gear with another stunning patch of form.

The 13-year-old has enjoyed a golden undefeated run from 12 Conference Junior League meetings for Wimbledon Juniors (under-16s) at Wimbledon Stadium, seeing off some strong opposition in the process.

His dominance was so complete that even a mechanical failure on the final lap of one race, which forced him to push the bike for the final 50 yards, still didn't prevent him from attaining top spot.

Last weekend he easily won all three races when riding at number one for Eastbourne Eagles' junior side in their Conference League Cup semi-final at Arlington.

Possibly of greater pertinence is the fact that he received a telephone call from the British Speedway Board's Training Officer and ex-world champion Louis Carr offering him the use of a special two stroke junior bike of the type ridden by Scandinavian prospects including new world champion Niki Pederson in his youth. He is hoping to collect the bike imminently to give him plenty of practice time on the tricky-to-use machine prior to hopefully running for Great Britain in the international group of meetings in Denmark next year.

The offer was agreed with the co-operation and blessing of Eagles' promoter John Cook who has shown a keen interest in signing Lewis once he attains the minimum age of 15 in just over a year's time provided that he maintains his present blistering form.
