Motorsport: Herbert overcomes the knocks at Knockhill

In qualifying he was confident of the pace his car had, which was proven when he qualified in second place meaning he would start from the front row. Closest championship rival Chrissy Palmer was fourth on grid.

For the first race conditions were dry. Herbert made a dream start taking the lead from pole position holder Jordan Stilp. The pair battled for the lead for three laps before Stilp ran wide leaving Herbert on his own to take the chequered flag.

Herbert started from pole for the second race with Palmer starting alongside him. Herbert made another good start and took the lead into the first corner but Palmer was pressurising him for the lead.

Palmer took the lead but Herbert soon took the lead again when Palmer’s engine blew on the fourth lap. The race for the lead went all the way to the chequered flag with Herbert taking it by 0.6 seconds from Stilp.

A reverse grid saw Herbert start from ninth on the grid in the final race, with Palmer alongside him.

Herbert made up three places by the end of the first lap but an incident saw the safety car deployed, and Herbert lost third gear, meaning when the race resumed he dropped down the order to seventh.

Crossing the line in seventh wasn’t all bad news for Herbert as he maintained the lead in the championship. The series heads to Rockingham, Northampton, later this month.
