Moyse accepts Bexhill aren't good enough

BEXHILL United manager Gerard Moyse conceded that his side simply isn't good enough after watching them crash to their eighth consecutive defeat and 13th in 14 matches.

The Polegrove side was hammered 4-0 by mid-table Seaford Town and managed just one tame strike at goal during the entire first half.

"Bar two or three players," Moyse said, "we're not good enough. I would say we've taken three steps backwards and the loss of players is probably beginning to tell.

"I would say it was the worst performance since I've been there for lack of commitment and lack of effort. It was horrendous really and they could have got hatfuls. I think we did feel the effects of that game (the 2-1 reverse against Saltdean United on Saturday) because they're still not up to fitness a lot of them."

Seaford went into the game full of beans following a stunning 4-0 win over high-riding Wealden two days previously and what was already going to be a difficult task for United was made virtually impossible when they fell two goals behind within the opening dozen minutes.

A delightful touch by Ricky Plastow released Adam Livings through on goal and the hat-trick hero against Wealden stroked the ball beyond Adam Taylor to give the visitors a sixth minute lead.

Plastow was also the provider of the second goal, stripping Scott Price - making his last appearance before returning to East Sussex League title-chasers St Leonards Social - of possession and setting up Chris Stanyard to beat Taylor.

United, for whom full debutant Ian May "was the only one who came out of it with anything at all really" according to his boss, did at least prevent further damage before the break. But it was all one-way traffic as Bexhill won nothing up-front and could barely string two passes together.

Seaford had 10 shots before the break to United's one and they could have gone further ahead within the opening half hour had a pair of shots each from Livings and Scott Allison hit rather than gone narrowly wide of the target.

As the half drew to a close, Mark Doherty shot wide after being played through by Lee Plastow and Stanyard forced a smart tip over from Taylor.

Bexhill's only moment of note came when a poor clearance by Seaford goalkeeper Kieran Maher went straight to the ineffective Jake Daniels, but he took far too long to get a shot away.

Seaford completed an easy win with second half goals from Stanyard (65) - an effort which Moyse felt should have been ruled out for handball - and Doherty (89).
