New boss gets tough on dissent

NEW Bexhill United manager Gerard Moyse believes that he can keep the club in Sussex Division Two.

Moyse, who officially replaced Bill Trivett on Tuesday, takes over a side that slid back to the bottom of the table after a 5-1 home defeat to St Francis Rangers on Saturday.

"I'm pretty confident," he said, "but December is a massive month. We've got four home games and, if we can get a couple of results, suddenly you're off the bottom of the league and it's not looking quite so bad.

"But it all depends on the players really. It's a big task, but if they're 100 per cent behind me, hopefully we'll be able to turn it around.

"I'm not having all the swearing and arguing with the manager at half time. I just want to see a little bit more commitment out of them and, if they show the right attitude, I think they'll be alright."

Moyse, who was assistant manager to Trivett for a while last season before taking up a similar position at Rye & Iden United, was in the dug-out for the 2-1 win over Sidlesham three weeks ago and for last weekend's encounter.

"I think most of the problem is that they're not organised," Moyse continued. "No-one knows what they're supposed to be doing. I'm hoping to get them organised first and get them a bit fitter because they don't look very fit.

"But I need to add. It's difficult to add to the side when you're bottom of the league and haven't got the facilities that are going to attract people, but I'm hoping that I can sort something out."

Trivett, whose resignation was accepted on this occasion after having it turned down just days before the Sidlesham match, will now become something of a co-ordinator for the club as a whole.

"I feel it's the best thing for the club at the moment," he commented. "I think Gerard will do a great job for us and I'm sure he will keep the side in the division."

Trivett's "stepping aside" means the second managerial shake-up at The Polegrove already this season following the resignation of Jason Robson, who was joint manager with Trivett, during September.
