New golf captains at Cooden

THE new captains of Cooden Beach Golf Club were unveiled amid glorious November sunshine.

Alan Hobbs and lady captain Paddy Raeburn took to the first tee amid a throng of expectant supporters to formally drive-in.

With nerves always an issue at such a time, it took the traditional glass of Scottish wine each to provide a calming platform for the respective opening drives.

To everybody's great relief, including their own, Alan and Paddy hit near perfect shots down the centre of the fairway which were greeted by rousing applause from those gathered.

Alan has elected Barnado's as his chosen charity during his year in office, while Paddy is supporting the League of Friends of Bexhill Hospital.

* The club's monthly Stableford competition took place in blustery conditions at the weekend and the weather took a heavy toll on the scoring of the 56 participants.

Three players tied for top spot on 33 points, but David Young edged Peter Hewitt and Richard Sheppard into second and third respectively on countback. Karl Wicking was fourth on 32 points.
