New life for racehorse

A FORMER Italian St Leger winner, Spanish Hidalgo, is enjoying a new lease of life in ex-racehorse showing classes and dressage , based at Slindon with local rider Kim Barrett.

He joined Kim in June, after he retired from racing at John Dunlop's Castle Stables, and finished third in his first ex-radehorse event event recently- a strong in-hand class at Great Bookham.

He is also showing promise in Prelim classes in dressage and the aim is to compete him at novice dressage level.

His companion is Kim's veteran mare Gwen, who is 20 years old and still competing.
