New netball league is a hit in Chichester

Fourteen weeks after it began, the first Chichester Netball League to be played at the Sports Dome at the University of Chichester has finished.

Eight teams from the Chichester district entered: Midhurst, Fishbourne Flames Red and Blue, Seaford College, Chichester College, Selsey’s Purple and Lilac Dolphins and Footloose.

Each team played the others twice, and results were not always the same each time.

The league has been a test of dedication, perseverance and loyalty to your team, but above all it has been great fun.

The ethos was to be the ‘Friendly League’; competitive, but also a time to meet new people and make friends.

Players learned a lot about skills and team tactics, developed their stamina and fitness, learned strengths and weaknesses and, hopefully, more of the rules.

It soon became clear how tight the league was going to be. Some games were very close, going to the last minute.

Competitive play was rewarded by the scoring system, where teams who scored half the goals of the winners also received points.

The results were not known until the last round and there was much excitement when there was only one point between third and fourth.

Final positions

1 Seaford College (Petworth)

2 Midhurst (Midhurst)

3 Purple Dolphins (Selsey)

4 Red Flames (Fishbourne)

5 Footloose (Chichester)

6 Chi College (Chichester)

8 Lilac Dolphins (Selsey)

The future of netball now looks good in Chichester. So netballers are urged to come and join in – if you haven’t a team, organisers will find you one. And if you want a back-to-netball club, they’ll sort that too.

The CNL committee are organising the Winter League, expanding to 12 teams, running from October to December and then from January to March.
